Meet Dr. Jeremy Zuniga
It is a privilege to be continuing Dr. Judge’s long-standing tradition of providing quality and compassionate orthodontic care to the South Shore as he has for the past forty years. I hope to have an opportunity to meet you in person in the near future so you can experience the standard of excellence that is expected from Marshfield Orthodontics. I know the importance of having an orthodontist who you can trust and would like to give you an idea of my training, who I am, and where I come from.
I completed my three-year orthodontic residency at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. In addition to my Master’s Thesis at Columbia, I successfully completed the clinic board exam for the American Board of Orthodontics and I am a board certified orthodontist. I am especially proud of this achievement given a vast majority of practicing orthodontists have not completed this important certification.
I feel fortunate to have received both my dental and orthodontic training at Columbia University for it has an excellent clinical and academic curriculum. At Columbia Dental, unlike most dental programs, the first two years of my dental curriculum was side-by-side with the medical students. This provided a comprehensive and in-depth education of the body’s physiological systems and how this relates to the oral cavity. During my third year, when I was class president, I won a national research award at the American Dental Association’s Annual Meeting for my research regarding the etiology of Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in patients who have been treated with Bisphosphonates. During my time in orthodontic residency at Columbia I excelled in an intense and rigorous clinical training program. Because Columbia serves orthodontic patients through New York State’s Medicaid system, I had a robust patient roster of over 160 patients. I have treated some of the most serious malocclusions including a number of surgical and craniofacial patients with all the latest techniques and procedures.
I am excited to be fulfilling my lifelong dream of being an orthodontist. Growing up outside of San Francisco, I was first introduced to the profession as an adolescent when I felt the positive effects of going through orthodontic treatment. It was because of what my orthodontic treatment did for both my self-esteem and self-confidence that I decided to follow in the footsteps of my orthodontist.
I found my way to the East Coast when, against all odds, I became a California kid who fell in love with ice hockey. During the summer before my senior year in high school, I looked into preparatory schools on the East Coast so I could continue to try to develop my hockey skills. I was offered a scholarship to St. Mark’s School in Southborough and three weeks later I was on a plane to Boston.
I cherished my St. Mark’s experience and fell in love with Boston so much that I decided to stay for college and attended Tufts University in Medford. I played on the men’s ice hockey team and worked my way through the competitive science curriculum graduating with a double major in Biology and Biomedical Engineering. Then, prior to attending dental school, I worked for Time Inc. publishing in New York City.
I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree in May of 2010. Prior to the start of residency, I married. My wife, Lucinda, grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts and she also graduated from Tufts. For the past ten years she has worked at Sotheby’s, the art auction house, and has since been at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
We are thrilled to be back in Massachusetts where we are closer to our friends, family, and Red Sox Nation! I hope this gives you an idea of who I am and where I come from. I look forward to meeting you in the near future and continuing the quality orthodontic care that Dr. Judge has provided for decades. I will strive to be the best orthodontist for you and your family.
